Book of the Month: "Fossil Future" by Alex Epstein
“Book of the Month” articles are a concept that I thought would be great for this substack for a while. The sad truth is that many modern books (nonfiction or fiction) are somewhat woke, so finding good books to read can be challenging. I hope that the “Book of the Month” series will encourage you all to find something of value in all of my recommendations, be they entertaining or intellectual. Today’s book of the month is a bit of both, as the author combines an engaging writing style with philosophical ideas and factual observations. Today’s book of the month is Fossil Future by Alex Epstein.
Mr. Epstein’s latest book and (current) magnum opus is reminiscent of his previous book The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels and Michael Shellenberger’s Apocalypse Never. However, just because this book is not utterly unique in its topic does not mean that it is a retread. Rather, this book might just become the most important book of this decade.
Climate change hysteria is at an all-time high, those advocating for sane climate policies are being hushed over both mass media and academia, and it seems like no one can explain and defend why they support those icky fossil fuels. This is the bleak world that we live in. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
